What is a good way to familiarize people with some of the biggest names in contemporary art?
Well, photographer Annie Leibovitz cast them as the starts of a Wizard of Oz themed shoot for the December 2005 issue of Vogue magazine.
Kara Walker is Glinda the Good Witch, John Currin is the Tin Man, Brice Marden is the Scarecrow, Jasper Johns is the Cowardly Lion, Chuck Close is the Wizard, Jeff Koons as a flying monkey, and Kiki Smith is the Wicked Witch. Enjoy.

Reminds me a little of work by Cindy Sherman ...or maybe not.
ReplyDeleteCindy Sherman is one of my favorites. I think it is the implied drama of her work that gets me every time.
